IGP Tunji Disu Launches State Police Implementation Committee

On a Wednesday following his appointment, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu inaugurated the State Police Implementation Committee, marking a significant step towards the decentralization of policing in Nigeria. This initiative aligns with the new policing vision for the country and is part of Disu's first official engagement with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The committee consists of eight senior members and is chaired by Professor Olu Ogunsakin. Disu emphasized the importance of leadership in policing, urging officers to exercise discipline and restraint while warning against human rights violations.

He affirmed that the police must respect the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their social or political status, and uphold the rule of law. The committee is expected to develop a policing framework and operational guidelines for the new structure, which will allow state and local authorities to play an active role in safeguarding their communities.
