IGP Disu Launches Committee for State Policing in Nigeria

Olatunji Disu, Nigeria's 23rd Inspector General of Police, inaugurated an eight-member committee on March 4 to implement state policing, a core mandate of his office. This initiative follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's call for the establishment of state policing to address national security concerns.

The committee is tasked with submitting its report within a month, reflecting the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria's internal security framework. Disu emphasized the importance of innovative strategies and collaboration to confront evolving security challenges.

The committee will review existing policing models, assess community security needs, and propose an operational framework for state policing. This framework aims to decentralize certain police responsibilities, ensuring efficient allocation of security resources at the state and local levels.

Disu, who assumed office on February 25 after the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, is committed to enhancing public trust in the police and addressing the complexities of Nigeria's diverse security landscape.
