The Nigerian Army has indefinitely suspended the statutory voluntary retirement of certain categories of officers to maintain manpower expertise amid the country's escalating insecurity. The decision, communicated in an internal memo signed by Major General E.

Okoro on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, aims to address the security challenges and expand the operational capacity of the armed forces. This move comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency, mandating the expansion of security agencies.

Officers who have not been promoted after three attempts, reached the age limit of 35 years in service, or failed to convert to a higher rank are affected by the suspension.
