Nigerian Army Suspends Officers' Retirement Amid Security Emergency Declared by President Tinubu

The Nigerian Army has halted the retirement of certain officers in response to a nationwide security emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu. This decision comes after a series of mass abductions, including the kidnapping of 300 students in Niger State, 38 worshippers in Kwara State, and 25 students in Kebbi State.

The move aims to bolster the armed forces' operational capacity to address the escalating security crisis. The suspension affects officers who have not been promoted after failing exams or reaching the age limit, emphasizing the need to retain experienced personnel.

Retired Brig Gen Peter Aro and Awwal Abdullahi of the Military Veterans Federation of Nigeria have welcomed the decision.
