Niger Police Begin Documentation of Kidnapped Students and Teachers in Papiri Town

The Niger State Police have initiated the documentation process for the kidnapped students and teachers from Papiri Town, Agwara Local Government Area. Conflicting reports suggest 259 students and 13 teachers were abducted by terrorists, with 66 managing to escape.

The police lack credible statistics on the exact number of children kidnapped and those returned. Governor Moham Umaru Bago, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, expressed uncertainty over the figures and the status of the victims.

The school has been allegedly ordered to close in 2021, with a subsequent directive to reopen, as investigations into the incident continue.
