Nigerian Prisons Declared 'Red Zones' Amid #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest Tensions

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has declared prison facilities across the country as 'Red Zones' in anticipation of the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest led by pro-democracy groups. The protest, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has raised security concerns.

The NCS spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, emphasized the need for heightened security to prevent unauthorized access or attacks during the demonstrations. Despite warnings from authorities, activist Omoyele Sowore insists the protest will proceed peacefully.

Security has been increased around key government areas in Abuja to deter any disruptions.
