Rivers State Government Halts Political Events at Port Harcourt Stadium Due to Safety Concerns

The Rivers State Government has halted the use of Port Harcourt Stadium for political events, attributing the decision to safety concerns during ongoing reconstruction. The state coordinator of Renew Hope Ambassador, Desmond Akawor, accused the government of denying access to the stadium for political purposes, which was refuted by officials citing safety risks due to incomplete construction work.

The government emphasized prioritizing public safety over political interests and warned against politicizing safety issues. The Attorney General of the state, Christoph Green, dismissed claims of political bias and affirmed that safety protocols must be followed for any event at the stadium.

The construction company, Monimichel, highlighted structural risks and safety hazards, including damaged underground pipes, posing dangers to attendees. The government reiterated that the decision was solely based on safety concerns and urged the public to disregard claims of political targeting.
