Tinubu Declares War on Terror Financiers on Democracy Day

On Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu declared a firm stance against terror financiers and kidnappers in Nigeria during a nationwide broadcast. He warned individuals and groups involved in terrorism to surrender, stating that the federal government is prepared to unleash the full weight of the law against anyone who refuses.

Tinubu noted that the window for surrender would not remain open indefinitely and that no mercy would be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians. He revealed that 13,000 terrorists had been eliminated in the past year, with a significant drop in terror-related fatalities.

The government is committed to a defense and security budget of ₦5.41 trillion for 2026, the largest allocation ever made for the sector, which includes plans to recruit 50,000 new police officers. Despite these efforts, Tinubu acknowledged ongoing challenges, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, stressing that democracy thrives in a secure environment.
