PDP Faction Appeals Supreme Court Ruling on Convention

The faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has formally filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to challenge a recent court ruling that nullified the Ibadan national convention. This legal move, confirmed on Friday, aims to safeguard the party's internal decisions as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

The decision to appeal was made during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Bauchi, where party leaders discussed strategies to stabilize the party's structure. Ini Ememobong, the party's spokesman, emphasized that reconciliation efforts within the party remain active despite the legal battle.

The NEC ratified the decision to appeal, which includes a request for an expedited hearing. Turaki reassured members that the PDP remains a strong political institution despite internal challenges.

Additionally, rival factions are reportedly planning separate conventions, but Ememobong dismissed claims that the Turaki-led leadership was unaware of these arrangements. The ongoing discussions aim to reduce tensions and strengthen the party's viability as an opposition force.
