Appeal Court Rules PDP Convention Unlawful Ahead of 2025

The Appeal Court in Abuja declared the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) upcoming convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, unlawful. This ruling stemmed from an appeal by a faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which argued that the PDP proceeded with the convention in defiance of a restraining order issued by the Federal High Court on November 14, 2025.

Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam delivered the unanimous judgment, emphasizing that the PDP's actions constituted a breach of both the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022. The court noted that the denial of Sule Lamido's opportunity to purchase nomination forms for the chairmanship was not an internal party affair.

The PDP was ordered to pay N2 million in costs, and the party's leadership indicated plans to appeal to the Supreme Court. Ini Ememobong, the PDP's national publicity secretary, stated that the party would take immediate legal steps to challenge the ruling.
