Turaki Faction of PDP Appeals to Supreme Court Over Judgment

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) plans to appeal to the Supreme Court against a recent Court of Appeal judgment. This judgment, delivered by a panel led by Justice Moham Danjuma, upheld a Federal High Court ruling that declared the PDP's national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2022, violated the Electoral Act, the Nigerian Constitution, and the party's own constitution.

Consequently, the court ruled that the election of Turaki and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) was invalid. Ini Ememobong, the party's spokesperson, expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would resolve the matter swiftly, emphasizing the importance of democracy.

The appeal follows a dismissal of an interlocutory order by Justice Abdulmalik, which had previously upheld the suspension of the national legal adviser and the national secretary. The faction aims to avert operational hardships for its members and is determined to reclaim control from what they describe as "governance agents masquerading as opposition leaders.".
