Wike Explains Fubara's Withdrawal from 2027 Race

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, explained that Siminalayi Fubara's withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race was not surprising and was part of a political agreement reached during reconciliation talks among major political stakeholders in Rivers State. Fubara announced his withdrawal from the Progressive Congress governorship primaries, stating that his decision was made in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State.

Wike emphasized that the arrangement was discussed extensively during the peace process and that Fubara should not have collected a nomination form given the prior understanding among political actors. Wike criticized Fubara for initially seeking the nomination despite the agreement.

Following Fubara's withdrawal, Wike endorsed Kingsley Chinda, describing him as a qualified and experienced politician capable of leading Rivers State effectively.
