Justice Hamma Barka to Retire from Court of Appeal in 2026

Justice Hamma Barka, a prominent figure in the Nigerian judiciary, will formally retire on April 17, 2026, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, President of the Court of Appeal, described him as an exemplary team player who has dedicated four decades of service to the judiciary and the nation.

During a special session held in Abuja to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Court of Appeal, she highlighted Barka's distinguished career, which included service in various divisions such as Benin, Ilorin, Akure, Calabar, and Abuja. Dongban-Mensem expressed gratitude for Barka's commitment and collegiality, noting the indelible mark he has left throughout his career.

The session also featured a total of 21 panels comprising 63 justices, who heard 330 appeals covering civil, criminal, and commercial matters. The event celebrated the court's milestone and aimed to inspire renewed commitment to justice administration.
