PCA Advocates for Judicial University in Nigeria

The PCA (Presidential Committee on the Administration of Justice) has called for the establishment of a judicial university to improve the training of judicial staff across Nigeria. This advocacy was highlighted during a valedictory session for Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, who will turn 70 in April and is retiring after a distinguished career marked by significant contributions to the judiciary.

The session also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the court. Justice Barka's career spanned various locations including Benin, Ilorin, Akure, Calabar, and Abuja, demonstrating a deep commitment to his duties.

The PCA noted that a judicial university would provide a platform for retired jurists like Justice Barka to continue contributing their vast knowledge and experience to the growth and development of the judiciary. Additionally, the PCA acknowledged the establishment of a 21-member panel to handle 330 appeals covering civil, criminal, and commercial matters, emphasizing the judiciary's ongoing efforts to manage cases effectively.
