Justice Minister: Extending Full Implementation of ACJA to States Will Promote Speedy Trials

Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi emphasized the importance of extending the full implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to all states in Nigeria to promote speedy trials and respect for human rights. The ACJA has already proven to be a transformative legal framework at the federal level.

Fagbemi highlighted that the law's application across states would reduce prolonged detention and enhance justice delivery. The AGF revealed that the ACJA is currently fully implemented in 12 states and efforts are underway to extend it to more.

The project, supported by the Norwegian Embassy, aims to strengthen justice delivery, enhance accountability, and protect citizens' rights. The initiative also focuses on operationalizing the Women Peace Security (WPS) agenda in five states to recognize the critical role of women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
