Kaduna State Distributes 100 Wheelchairs to Disabled Children

The Kaduna State government has commenced the distribution of 100 specialized pediatric wheelchairs to children with mobility impairments across the state. This initiative is part of the "Build World Play" program, implemented in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative.

During the formal handover ceremony, Rakiya Umar, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Disability Affairs Board, described this intervention as a significant step toward improving the quality of life for children with disabilities. The wheelchairs are designed to provide posture support, featuring headrests, backrests, and positioning straps to prevent long-term bodily deformities.

Each child will undergo an individual fitting session to ensure proper adjustment, and parents and caregivers will receive training on safe handling and maintenance. The program is supported by various organizations, including the Kaduna State Disability Affairs Board and the LEGO Foundation, and aligns with the state's disability inclusion policy framework.

Additionally, 171,000 children have been screened for developmental delays, with 2,000 already identified for further support.
