Kaduna Women Demand UN Women Probe into Mary Habila's Death

The Kaduna Women Justice Alliance has formally requested UN Women to intervene following the death of Mary Habila, a physiotherapist, under controversial circumstances at the private residence of Senator David Umahi in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The petition, signed by Zainab Hadiza Liman, urges appropriate authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Habila's death and to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.

The group has called for a wider probe into allegations associated with Senator Umahi, including previous claims of sexual misconduct and unresolved disappearances linked to the Effium ring road project during his tenure as governor of Ebonyi State. The petition also requests the establishment of an independent investigative panel comprising representatives from the Nigerian Police, DSS, forensic experts, and civil society organizations, emphasizing the need for protective measures and transparency throughout the investigation process.

Copies of the petition have been sent to various Nigerian institutions, including the National Assembly and the Inspector General of Police.
