Kaduna Workers Threaten Strike Over Salary Delays

Workers in Kaduna, represented by the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), have threatened to protest and strike due to the delayed implementation of salary adjustments for civil servants at grade level 07 and above. The council expressed dissatisfaction with the state government's lack of commitment to approve and implement these adjustments, which were initially discussed in a meeting held in October 2024.

The JNC, led by Comrade Danjuma Yusuf (Chairman) and Musa Muham (Secretary), noted that a committee was set to review the minimum wage and submit its report by November 2024, but implementation has yet to commence. The council has written to the state governor multiple times, including in October 2025 and January 2026, appealing for action, but no concrete steps have been taken.

They warned that failure to act by April 2026 would compel workers to boycott the May Day celebration and initiate an indefinite strike. The JNC highlighted the financial strain on workers due to inflation, as the current minimum wage of N72,000 has not been adjusted for senior civil servants.
