Kalu Defends Tinubu's Economic Reforms Amid Struggles

Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North, defended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Kalu asserted that the Tinubu administration has stabilized key macroeconomic indicators despite ongoing hardships, while admitting that Nigeria's microeconomy is under severe strain, affecting millions of citizens.

He emphasized that insecurity and global economic challenges are undermining economic activities at the grassroots level. Kalu, a businessman himself, noted that manufacturers and ordinary Nigerians are particularly impacted by the current economic realities.

He stated that while macroeconomic aspects such as the exchange rate and fuel prices are stabilizing, the microeconomy remains problematic. Kalu attributed some of Nigeria's economic challenges to regional insecurity and global conflicts, asserting that economic reforms often involve short-term pain for long-term benefits.

He acknowledged the criticisms from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, agreeing that their statements reflect the conscience of the country.
