Kanayo O. Kanayo Remembers Olu Jacobs' Legacy in Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo shared his experiences working with Olu Jacobs, who passed away at the age of 84.

In an interview with BBC Focus on Africa, Kanayo described Jacobs as a consummate professional who consistently arrived early, effortlessly handled his lines, and maintained high standards on set. He emphasized Jacobs' willingness to mentor younger actors while having little tolerance for those who tried to bypass the hard work necessary for success.

Kanayo recalled their collaboration in a film produced by Lancelot Imasuen, where Jacobs portrayed a king and Kanayo played his prince, reflecting their real-life status in the industry. Olu Jacobs, born Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs on July 11, 1942, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and had a prolific career in British theatre, international film, and Nigerian cinema spanning over five decades.

He co-founded the Lufodo Group with his wife, Joke Silva, and received numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa International Film Festival. Jacobs was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2021 and is survived by his wife and children.
