Kano Assembly Initiates Impeachment Against Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has moved to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, with a total of 38 members endorsing the motion. The action is based on accusations of gross misconduct and violation of public trust, as outlined in the impeachment notice read during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgor.

Lawan Husseini Dala presented the notice, which cites Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, empowering the state legislature to commence impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor. The allegations include receiving kickbacks of 1.5 million Naira monthly from 44 local government councils in the state between June 2023 and January 2024, amounting to 66 million Naira per month and a total of 462 million Naira over seven months.

Additionally, it is alleged that from February to July 2024, Gwarzo received an extra 3.255 million Naira monthly, bringing the total alleged amount received during this period to 726 million Naira.
