Kano State Holds Mass Wedding for 1,500 Widows

On Friday, the Kano State Government organized a mass wedding for 1,500 widows at the Juma’at Mosque of the Emir’s Palace in Kano. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf acted as the guardian (Waliyyi) for Haruna Bashir, who lost his wife and children in a terrorist attack in Chiranci.

Haruna Bashir married Nabila Kabiru Yunusa during the ceremony, with a dowry of N200,000 paid by the state. The mass wedding was held simultaneously across all 44 Local Government Areas in Kano.

Each bride received N200,000 and additional financial assistance for small-scale business ventures. Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, noted that the government also provided Haruna Bashir with support to rebuild his life, including sponsorship for Umrah and Hajj pilgrimages and a house in Amana City.

Daurawa encouraged the newlyweds to uphold marriage sanctity and contribute positively to society. The state allocated approximately N300 million for this initiative.
