Kano State Spends N1.5bn on Mass Wedding for 1,500 Couples

The Kano State Government has committed N1.5 billion to facilitate a mass wedding for 1,500 couples under the Auren Gata mass wedding programme. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this during a reception where furniture and support items were distributed to the newlyweds.

Each couple received N100,000 as dowry and an additional N100,000 capital grant to help them start small businesses. The initiative also included medical screenings for the couples to ensure their health and that of their future children.

Governor Yusuf urged the couples to practice patience, justice, and mutual respect in their marriages, emphasizing that marriage is an act of worship. He noted that the Auren Gata programme was a key promise made during his campaign for the 2023 elections.

Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko Radda praised the initiative for improving the welfare of the people. Sheikh Dr Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, highlighted the program's recognition and its aim to prepare couples for married life.
