Kano Mass Wedding Supports Victim of Family Tragedy

Haruna Bashir, a victim of a tragic incident where his wife, Fatima Abubakar, and six children were murdered by his nephew, Umar Awwalu, benefited from a mass wedding organized by the Kano state government. The wedding, conducted by the Hizba (Shari’a enforcement agency), took place on Friday at the Emire’s palace mosque in Kano, involving 1,500 couples across the state's 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

During the ceremony, Kano state Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf acted as the groom's guardian for Bashir, while the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, represented the bride. The marriage was conducted according to Islamic rights, requiring a dowry of N300,000.

Following the tragic event on January 17, 2026, where Bashir's family was brutally murdered, the Kano state government provided him with a house and raised funds to support him in rebuilding his life after such immense loss.
