Kano Deputy Governor Faces Impeachment Over Misconduct

The Kano State House of Assembly has issued a two-week ultimatum to Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam to respond to allegations of financial misconduct that could lead to his impeachment. The petition triggering this process was submitted by major leader Lawan Hussaini Dala, citing violations of Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, amended).

The allegations against Abdussalam include diverting funds intended for local government administration for personal gain, with claims of receiving kickbacks totaling 462 million Naira between June 2023 and January 2024. Additionally, he is accused of misusing funds in an official capacity, with reports indicating he received 726 million Naira from local government councils.

Further allegations include facilitating the improper release of 440 million Naira to North Med Pharmaceutical, violating public procurement laws and state fiscal regulations, which constitutes gross misconduct as defined in Section 188(2) of the Constitution.
