Kano Assembly Moves to Impeach Deputy Governor Abdussalam

The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced an impeachment process against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam, following a notice presented by Major Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala. The impeachment notice, compliant with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, amended), outlines severe allegations against Abdussalam related to his tenure as head of the Local Government Commission.

Allegations include the receipt of kickbacks amounting to N462 million over seven months from 44 local government areas, as well as additional payments totaling N726 million for special assignments. The notice claims these actions constitute a breach of public trust and violate principles of transparency and accountability expected from public officials.

The impeachment notice has garnered support from 38 lawmakers, and the Speaker has acknowledged receipt, initiating the required procedures for the impeachment process, which includes the establishment of a panel to investigate the allegations.
