Kano Governor Merges Higher Education Ministry Amid Tensions

Kano Governor Yusuf has announced the abolition of the Higher Education Ministry, which was previously overseen by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo. This ministry will now merge with the Ministry of Education as part of a broader reform aimed at improving coordination and efficiency within the state's education sector.

The decision was communicated through a statement by the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa. The restructuring includes the establishment of a directorate for higher education within the Ministry of Education, and the previously defunct State Scholarship Board will now report to the merged ministry.

This reform initiative comes amid escalating political tensions in Kano State, particularly following allegations of money laundering against Deputy Governor Gwarzo, which have led to an impeachment notice presented by major leaders in the Kano State House of Assembly. The notice accuses Gwarzo of misconduct and financial impropriety during his tenure.
