Kano Government to Resolve Emirship Tussle Soon, Assures Peace and Stability

The Kano State government, through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has indicated that efforts are underway to resolve the longstanding Emirship tussle between Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. The two Emirs have been in a deadlock over the claim to the throne for nearly two years, with Sanusi operating from the Gidan Rumfa Palace and Ado Bayero from the Nassarawa Mini Palace.

Waiya suggested that political unity at the state and federal levels, particularly within the ruling party APC, is crucial to removing obstacles to peace settlement. The Kano government is committed to resolving the dispute, either through one of the Emirs stepping down or through a mutual reconciliation process.

The government stresses the importance of dialogue and stakeholder involvement, emphasizing respect for the rule of law and traditional institutions. Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje's defection to the APC is seen as a move to enhance development and collaboration with the federal government for the benefit of Kano State.
