Kano Lawyers Suspend Strike After Government Negotiations

Lawyers in Kano State suspended their industrial action after successful negotiations with the Kano State Government. The strike commenced on March 11 and was suspended on March 13 after a meeting led by Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the head of the Kano State Ministry of Justice.

Key figures in the negotiations included Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who confirmed the suspension, and Abdullahi Aminu Sham, the chairman of the lawyers' association. The agreement stipulates that the Kano State Government has 21 days to implement the recommendations of a committee formed to address the lawyers' welfare and working conditions.

The leadership of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria commended the efforts of all stakeholders involved in resolving the dispute. The indefinite strike was initiated due to unresolved issues regarding difficult working conditions and statutory entitlements for the lawyers.
