Jibrin Aims to Secure Kano for Tinubu in 2027 Elections

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated during an interview on Channels TV on September 16 that he and his allies will swing Kano State in favor of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Jibrin emphasized their deep roots in the state's political landscape, which he believes gives them an advantage.

His remarks challenge the influence of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, a political organization led by former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming elections. Jibrin, who previously belonged to the Kwankwasiyya Movement before leaving to join the APC in 2026, is positioning himself to contest for the loyalty of Kano voters, a crucial demographic for both the APC and NDC.

By invoking the Kwankwasiyya name, Jibrin suggests that former members of the movement who have joined the APC still maintain essential grassroots connections to counter their former allies.
