Fire Outbreak Hits Singa Market in Kano Again

On Saturday afternoon, a fire broke out at Singa Market in Kano, starting around 4:00 PM and resulting in the destruction of two-storey buildings. This incident marks the second fire outbreak in less than two weeks, as reported by trader Nasir Maharazu to Daily Trust.

Eyewitnesses noted that the fire began in a provision shop, sending thick black smoke into the sky and causing confusion among traders and shoppers. Efforts to salvage goods were made to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.

The Kano State Fire Service responded with fire trucks, but initial water supplies were reportedly exhausted, prompting the arrival of a second truck and a private water tanker from Aspira Nigeria Limited to assist in controlling the inferno. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This latest outbreak follows a similar incident that left traders with heavy losses, deepening the economic hardships faced by business owners in Singa Market, which is one of the largest commodity markets in Kano, supplying provisions and foodstuff to northern states and neighboring West and Central African countries.
