Kano State Invests N1 Billion to Combat Child Malnutrition

The Kano State Government has taken significant steps to improve nutrition among children and pregnant women by purchasing N1 billion worth of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) for distribution across the state. This initiative was announced by Prof.

Salihu Ahmad Ibrahim, the Director General of the Primary Healthcare Management Board, during a meeting with Dr. Osita Okonkwo, the Country Director of Nutrition International, on Tuesday.

Prof. Ibrahim emphasized the necessity of partnerships with organizations such as Nutrition International to effectively address malnutrition in Kano State, where a large population of children suffers from nutritional deficiencies.

The state government has committed N500 million, matched by an additional N500 million from UNICEF, to support this initiative. Prof.

Ibrahim reassured that the state government is dedicated to combating malnutrition and expressed the need for expanded partnerships to amplify efforts in primary healthcare, particularly for women and children.
