Traffic Diversion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for Repairs

The Federal Ministry of Works has issued a statement regarding traffic diversions on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway due to necessary repairs on the Kara Bridge. The maintenance work is set to begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last approximately two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, such as Ikorodu, Sagamu, and Ibadan, and to consider traveling via Shimawa and Mosinmi to reach Lagos Island. The ministry cautioned that while these alternative routes may be shorter, they are not necessarily the fastest.

The Federal Ministry of Works, represented by Olayiwola Komolaf, expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the temporary partial closure and assured the public of efforts to ensure safety and improve traffic management during the repair period. Michael Komolaf also emphasized the urgency of the repairs due to the significant deterioration of the expansion joints on the Kara, Magboro, and Arepo bridges, which pose safety risks.
