Katsina Health Workers to Begin Seven-Day Strike on Sept 8

The Assembly of Healthcare Professionals of Nigeria (AHAPN) has announced a seven-day warning strike set to commence at midnight on September 8, 2026, in Katsina State. This decision follows a 21-day ultimatum issued to the Katsina State Government, which expired without a resolution to the workers' welfare and professional demands.

The strike will involve members from the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN). AHAPN's state chairman, Ibrahim Balange, stated that despite years of discussions with the government, many demands have been acknowledged but not implemented.

The association warned that if the government does not address the workers' concerns during the warning period, an indefinite strike may follow. AHAPN urged the public to understand the situation and hold the government accountable for any disruptions caused by the strike.
