Katsina Targets 3 Million Children for Polio Vaccination

Katsina State has set a target to vaccinate 3 million children against polio and provide routine immunization services by March 2026. Dr.

Shamsuddeen Yahaya, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Agency, announced this initiative on Monday during a mass mobilization dialogue with journalists and social media influencers. The vaccination campaign is scheduled to run from March 28 to March 31, focusing on children under 59 months across 34 local government areas.

Dr. Yahaya urged parents, caregivers, and stakeholders to support the campaign to ensure eligible children receive immunization against this child killer disease.

The government has upgraded 260 primary health centers to provide healthcare services, including routine immunization. Mr.

Umar Ahm from UNICEF emphasized the importance of addressing misinformation surrounding oral polio vaccination, which has led to fear and confusion among the public. He highlighted the need for media to provide clear and factual information to help shape public understanding of the vaccination campaign.
