Katung Launches Health Initiative Against Hepatitis in Kaduna
• This Day • Health
Senator Katung, representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, launched Project 365 in Kafanchan to address the rising incidence of hepatitis in Southern Kaduna. The initiative aims to eliminate viral hepatitis through expanded access to screening, diagnosis, treatment, and vaccination services for approximately 620,000 residents across the district. During the launch, Katung emphasized that viral hepatitis is a silent killer, often leading to severe liver diseases like cirrhosis and cancer due to late diagnosis. The project is designed to bridge healthcare access gaps by bringing services directly to communities, including rural areas, markets, schools, and places of worship. It will also provide free screening, vaccination, and treatment while supporting awareness campaigns across eight local government areas. Governor Uba Sani commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with ongoing health sector reforms aimed at improving public health outcomes in the state. The initiative addresses a significant public health threat, as an estimated 25 million Nigerians are affected by hepatitis.
