Kebbi State Government Launches Major Erosion Control Project

The Kebbi State Government has awarded a contract for a significant erosion control project in the Badariya and Malala areas of Birnin Kebbi. Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, announced this at a news briefing on Wednesday.

The project, which began in 2004, was left unfinished by prior administrations. The current administration, led by Governor Nasir Idris, has signed the contract to execute the project.

The contractor has already mobilized to the site in preparation for the official commencement of work by the governor. The Kebbi State Government has established a committee to inventory houses and structures that will need to be removed for the project, alongside another committee tasked with compensating affected individuals.

Tungulawa indicated that around 50,000 people would benefit from the erosion control program, including households vulnerable to flooding, farmers, businesses, and community members reliant on the impacted areas.
