NPFL Sanctions Bendel Insurance and Coach Boboye

Bendel Insurance and its head coach, Kennedy Boboye, incurred sanctions from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) due to violations during the match against Plateau United on March 28, 2026, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas, and displayed unsporting behavior that could bring the game into disrepute.

Additionally, the club's supporters did not conduct themselves properly, leading to harassment of match officials. As a result, Bendel Insurance was fined N2 million for failing to ensure adequate security and N2 million for unsporting behavior, totaling N4 million.

Coach Kennedy Boboye was fined N2 million and suspended for 17 matches for gross misconduct towards match officials, violating principles of fair play. Furthermore, Bendel Insurance will play their next three home matches behind closed doors.

Recent NPFL matches have been marred by violence due to alleged referee bias, although authorities maintain that procedures exist to register grievances regarding match officials' conduct.
