Lagos Airport Terminal to Be Demolished After Fire

On Monday, a significant fire incident occurred at Lagos Airport, specifically affecting Terminal 1, leading to extensive damage to the facility. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, reported that the fire started around 3:00 PM and was successfully contained by 7:00 PM, with no lives lost.

However, at least six individuals were hospitalized due to the incident. Keyamo disclosed that the terminal was already scheduled for refurbishment and will now be demolished.

A temporary terminal will be constructed to accommodate a few airlines that operate from the affected facility. The fire disrupted operations at the old terminal, forcing flight diversions and worsening travel delays, creating operational uncertainty for airlines.

The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response involving multiple agencies, as thick smoke billowed from the terminal during the firefighting efforts.
