D’Tigress Receives $100,000 Payment from Tinubu

Engr. Musa Kida, President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, and D’Tigress captain Amy Okonkwo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the players and officials of Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Basketball team received the $100,000 payment promised for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament. This payment is part of the rewards announced during a presidential reception at the Aso Rock Villa last year, where President Tinubu pledged each player a three-bedroom flat and $100,000 in Naira equivalent for their historic fifth consecutive Afrobasket title.

The National Sports Commission chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, met with the Minister of Finance, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, to finalize the payment arrangements. President Tinubu confirmed the disbursement on his X handle, stating that the rewards had been fully redeemed, with players receiving the Naira equivalent of $100,000 and officials $50,000.

He emphasized that his administration is the first to fulfill such sporting rewards within one year. Kida and Okonkwo expressed gratitude for the support and commitment shown by the government.
