Tinubu Redeems Promises to Nigerian Athletes with Rewards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the redemption of promises made to Nigerian athletes, specifically the D’Tigress, who won the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title last year, and the Super Falcons, who secured their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco earlier this year. In a post on his X handle, Tinubu stated that each D’Tigress player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honors, and three-bedroom homes in Abuja.

He emphasized that this is the first time a Federal Government has fulfilled such a scale of presidential sporting rewards within one year. He acknowledged that the process took time due to legal requirements but reiterated the importance of keeping promises.

The Super Falcons players and officials have received title documents for their house allocations and National Honours certificates. Tinubu also mentioned that the promises made to Super Eagles players have been redeemed.
