Benue Police Command Rescues Eight Kidnapping Victims

The Benue State Police Command successfully rescued eight victims who were kidnapped by armed men along the Ankpenchi–Ogobia axis in Ohimini Local Government Area. Commissioner of Police Cletus C.N.

Nwadiogbu announced the rescue during an emergency press conference in Makurdi on September 19, 2026. The victims were rescued during an operation in Amla Forest at approximately 6:30 AM.

The incident began when armed men intercepted a commercial bus on September 13, 2026, abducting 13 passengers; four were rescued shortly after the incident. Tactical teams had been in the forest since September 14, 2026, and engaged in a gun battle with the kidnappers based on credible intelligence.

Tragically, one of the remaining nine victims died from gunshot injuries sustained during the initial attack. Ongoing efforts are being made to recover the corpse and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.

Nwadiogbu also reported that six policemen had been lost in various operations recently, emphasizing a commitment to reducing crime in the state.
