King Charles III to Host Nigeria's First UK State Visit in 37 Years with Bola Tinubu

King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the UK will host Nigeria's first state visit to the United Kingdom in 37 years, welcoming Nigerian dignitaries Bola Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle on March 18-19, 2026. The visit is significant for improving diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries, with a focus on enhancing trade partnerships.

The last three Nigerian state visits to the UK were in 1973, 1981, and 1989. Notably, Prince Wale had met with Tinubu previously in 2023.

The visit is expected to include formal events like a state banquet and political meetings. Tinubu's congratulatory message to Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Economic Coordination, was also highlighted.

The visit underscores efforts to strengthen the partnership between the UK and Nigeria, following private meetings at Buckingham Palace and discussions during the COP28 conference in Dubai.
