Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After Successful UK Visit

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Friday after a successful state visit to the United Kingdom that took place from March 18 to 19, 2026. This visit was significant as it marked the first formal state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, the last occurring in 1989.

Upon their arrival, they were welcomed by senior government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio. During the visit, Tinubu met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to engage in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria-UK relations.

Key agreements were signed, including a £746 million financial agreement involving UK export finance for Nigerian port authorities. Additionally, a new agreement was established to facilitate the return of failed Nigerian asylum seekers and those with visa overstays, aiming to enhance migration control and bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
