Parents Protest King’s College Concession in Lagos

On August 27, 2023, parents of students at King’s College, Lagos, protested against the Federal Government's concession of the school to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA). The parents gathered on Lagos Island, carrying placards with messages such as “King’s College is not for sale” and “Federal Government, we say no to concession.” They expressed their opposition to the arrangement, which they believe would transfer control of the 116-year-old institution to its former students.

Peter Oluwaseye, Chairman of the King’s College Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), stated that parents would not allow the school to resume unless the government clarifies its position. He warned of a potential suspension of the academic session and judicial intervention if the government remains silent.

Oluwaseye accused KCOBA of attempting to turn the school into a revenue-generating venture, asserting that King’s College is public property and should not be treated as the property of former students.
