King’s College Workers Block Old Boys Over Concession Dispute

On Tuesday, workers at King’s College in Lagos blocked members of the Old Boys’ Association from entering the school to hold a press conference about the federal government's decision to concession the management of the institution. The workers protested at the entrance, singing solidarity songs and demanding the government reverse its decision.

The Old Boys’ Association, led by president Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, held the press conference outside the school, explaining that the federal government had approved the transfer of management to the association to rehabilitate the school and improve its facilities. Ibrahim-Imam clarified that this concession did not equate to a sale of the school, emphasizing that the federal government would retain ownership.

He also addressed concerns about potential increases in school fees, stating that teachers who remain would see their salaries doubled. Tensions escalated at the school gate, prompting police intervention to allow the Old Boys’ Association access.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, acknowledged the workers' right to protest but stated it could not obstruct the old boys' rights to meet.
