FG Confirms King’s College Lagos Not Sold, Retains Ownership

The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured the public that King’s College, Lagos, remains a publicly owned institution and has not been sold or privatized. Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education, clarified the situation regarding the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concession with the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA).
Under the Concession Agreement, KCOBA will finance, rehabilitate, modernize, operate, and maintain the school, while the Federal Government retains legal title and oversight responsibilities. Dr. Alausa emphasized that the concession does not transfer ownership or create proprietary interests for KCOBA.
Admissions will continue to follow Unity College policies, ensuring merit-based representation from all states. The agreement does not mandate an automatic increase in school fees and aims to address the infrastructure needs of the 117-year-old institution.
The concession was developed under a PPP framework and underwent various assessments before receiving regulatory approvals.
