Klopp Criticizes FIFA Over Balogun's Suspension Decision

Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool coach, publicly criticized FIFA's decision regarding Folarin Balogun's suspension, which was triggered by a red card received during a match against Bosnia in the World Cup 2026. Balogun, who is 25 years old, was shown a straight red card after a VAR review during the U.S. team's 2-0 victory in the last 32.

FIFA's regulations state that a red card automatically results in a match ban that cannot be appealed. The suspension means Balogun will miss the U.S. team's last 16 knockout clash against Belgium.

Reports indicate that Donald Trump intervened by contacting FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a review of Balogun's punishment. Klopp expressed his disapproval of the decision, stating it was shameful that Balogun would not be able to play and criticized the involvement of individuals who lack understanding of football.
