Kogi Launches Campaign on New Tax Laws for Taxpayers

The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) initiated a taxpayer sensitisation campaign regarding newly introduced tax laws, commencing with a town hall meeting in Okene on Friday. This meeting is the first of several planned across Kogi State's three senatorial districts, aimed at educating taxpayers, enhancing compliance, and fostering public understanding of tax reforms.

Dr Sule Salihu Enehe, Executive Chairman of KGIRS, represented by Barrister Abubakar-Aliyu Bala, emphasized the importance of taxation for national development and stated the agency's commitment to a fair tax system. Dr Rahman Nasir Ichanyi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue, highlighted the reforms' goals of eliminating illegal revenue collection and reducing multiple taxation burdens.

The meeting included a presentation by Hassanat Enehezei Salawu, Director of MDAs at KGIRS, and addressed concerns from various stakeholders, particularly those in the informal sector, regarding infrastructure challenges affecting business growth. The sensitisation campaign will continue in Kogi East and Kogi West.
