Kogi Community Backs INEC Chairman Prof. Amupitan

The Ayetoro Gbede community in Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, has expressed support for Prof. Joash Amupitan, the current chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They urged him to remain focused on his responsibilities and to resist calls for his resignation, which they view as part of a "pull down syndrome" prevalent in Nigeria. Mr.

Samuel Olorunmaiy, representing the Ayetoro Gbede Development Association (AGDA), described Prof. Amupitan as a man of integrity who has served the nation in various capacities, including as the head of the Department of Public Law at the university and the longest-serving Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The community leaders, including youth leader Comrade Elijah Babatund, emphasized the need for Prof. Amupitan to concentrate on delivering free and fair elections in 2027, urging Nigerians to grant him the space to serve without distractions from non-state actors.

They reaffirmed their belief in his competence and character, calling for restraint from political actors and encouraging the use of legal channels to address grievances.
